BBC Yorkshire
BBC Yorkshire prides itself on being right in the centre of one of the busiest news areas in the country. This year has been no exception. The Great Flood of 2007 will live long in the memory. Our websites had their busiest time ever - in just a week bbc.co.uk/southyorkshire received 11 million hits.
Listeners to BBC Radio Sheffield raised nearly £100,000 for flood-hit communities. And Look North- already named by the Royal Television Society (Yorkshire) as News Programme of the Year- won acclaim for its coverage. We were there too when Bollywood came to Yorkshire- bringing with it an unprecedented global TV audience ; when the truly inspirational Jane Tomlinson launched her Leeds 10k run and later sadly lost her battle with cancer ; and in sport- for Leeds Rhinos' stunning Superleague triumph and Sheffield United's controversial relegation from the Premiership.
We are thrilled to be part of the Yorkshire awards and hope you will enjoy our coverage of tonight's events . Enjoy the evening. From Harry, Christa and everyone at BBC Yorkshire
