Douglas Thompson - Yorkshire Unsung Hero 2001

Douglas is a volunteer at Manorlands Hospice in Keighley.

He is typical of the behind the scenes volunteers that get on with work that is often tedious. A good listener, hard working, he gives generously of his time whether it be doing routine admin tasks or acting as a volunteer driver.

Staff at the Hospice say nothing is too much trouble for him and that he is a tower of strength and is a friend and confidant to many especially the patients.

Manorlands has many wonderful volunteers but they consider that Douglas is exceptional because he works many hours and helps anyone he can within the hospice in a very quiet unassuming way.
